What Are the Best Betting Markets By Sport

Within each sport, certain betting markets are consistently mispriced by sportsbooks — and knowing where to look gives you a built-in edge before you've handicapped a single game.

Different markets within the same sport have dramatically different levels of efficiency. The NFL spread on a primetime game is one of the most efficiently priced bets in the world. A prop on a backup wide receiver's receiving yards in the same game might be set by a junior trader using incomplete data. Those two bets exist on the same ticket but in completely different value landscapes.

NFL — Best Markets

Alternate game spreads and totals early in the week tend to be less efficient than the standard market. First-half and first-quarter spreads are priced with less precision than full-game lines. Player props — particularly rushing yards for backs in run-heavy offenses — often lag behind injury news and usage data.

NBA — Best Markets

Totals are the sharpest NBA market to exploit. Books use pace data but sometimes underweight rest, back-to-back fatigue, and individual defensive matchups. Player props — points, assists, and three-pointers made — are frequently available in high volume and often mispriced relative to recent usage rates and matchup quality.

MLB — Best Markets

First five inning (F5) lines isolate starting pitcher performance and remove bullpen volatility, making them easier to model accurately. Run lines (the equivalent of spreads in baseball) offer better value than moneylines for strong favorites, since the juice on a -200 moneyline is often not worth the price.

NHL — Best Markets

Puck lines (+1.5 / -1.5) and period lines offer value when the standard moneyline is heavily juiced. Totals in low-scoring games or back-to-back situations with tired starting goaltenders can be mispriced.
