What Are Betting Splits Explained

Betting splits show what percentage of bets and money are on each side of a game. They reveal how the public is betting and where sharp money may be flowing.

Two Types of Splits

Ticket count (bet %): The raw number of individual bets on each side. Reflects recreational betting volume.

Money %: The total dollars on each side. Reflects where larger bets are placed — which often correlates with sharper action.

Reading the Splits

| Bet % | Money % | Signal | |———-|————-|————| | 80% public | 80% money | Public heavy — normal | | 80% public | 50% money | Sharp money opposing the public | | 60% public | 75% money | Large bets backing the public |

When money % diverges from bet % significantly, it signals that large individual bets are going against the public grain.

Line Movement Confirmation

Pair splits with line movement:

  • Line moves AGAINST the public (public on Team A, line moves to benefit Team B): Sharp money signal
  • Line moves WITH the public (public on Team A, line moves to benefit Team A): Public moving the line, no sharp signal
